What is a “Tawkile” in Egypt?
Every person who wants to acquire or has already acquired property of any kind in Egypt receives the most important document, the so-called Tawkile (general power of attorney, title deed) issued and certified by the Egyptian notary (Shara A Kari) in the national language Arabic. The origin of the owner is irrelevant here.
Tawkile is the main document you receive after purchase (here real estate) in Egypt. It confirms your right to own and dispose of your property.
This is what is written in it:
- Naming of the property (property with full address and its key details: number of rooms, square meters, apartment number, …)
- Information about both contracting parties, buyer and seller
- Confirmation of full payment of all costs (without specifying the amount)
Conditions for issuing:
- Full payment of the new property to the seller
- Personal presence of both parties in the Egyptian notary office (Shara A Kari)
- Valid passport
Other important facts about Tawkile:
- For a resale property, you must obtain a complete order of all Tawkile from all previous owners
- Only Tawkile in Arabic certified by a notary are legally valid
- With the Tawkile you are fully authorized and able to give away, sell or inherit your new property
